Our 1st Summer practice

Thank you to everyone who showed up to our Summer cross country kick off. It was a great turnout and bodes well for a great summer and ultimately a great season.
I know a lot of you were out of town and couldn't make it so below is a run down of what was covered in the meeting on Monday.

Why run cross country? It's a hard sport. Rebecca Rusch a 7 time world champion mountain biker couldn't have explained cross country better.

"No, I don't like being in pain, but I like who I am on the other side of it. On the other side of something really, really hard, I am always going to come out with a win one way or the other and I grow as a person everytime"

So what do you do to find out what's on the other side?

1. Make a commitment to be consistent during the summer. Summer is where champions are born. It's the most important phase of your cross country training. It builds the foundation that will determine what you will accomplish this coming season.

2. Gradually ease into your training. Don't make big jumps. Everything needs to be gradual so you avoid injury.

3. Listen to your body. Take a day off if you need to but don't take lots of days of in a row. Stay consistent.

4. Hydrate and eat well everyday. Take care of your body

5. Get good consistent sleep.

6. Make sure you have good running shoes so you avoid injuries.

7. Set a GOAL and WRITE IT DOWN.

Other important information:

1. Go to 'Summer Schedule' below on the website. There were a couple of changes from the original schedule you got at the meeting before school got out. Notably we will be meeting a Ester Simplot Park (whitewater park) on Wednesdays 8am and at Capital (weightroom 7:30am, run 8am) on Thursdays.

2. Go to the link below on website to register for the upcoming season. All paperwork is on line this year and needs to be completed before the official first practice, so please get it done. You will not be allowed to practice if paperwork is not complete. Please remember all Freshmen and Juniors need an updated physical.

3. Please review the 'Requirements for Washington trip' below on website. To be eligible you need to fulfill some summer requirements. Please make sure you know what they are and follow them so you don't miss out on a great trip.

4. Our pre-season camp is Aug. 17-19 at Woodriver Campground. Details will come later.

5. There are still some spots available for the Clearwater Cross Country camp July 11-15        http://connect.lcsc.edu/crosscountry/clearwaterrunningcamp.html
Please contact me if you are interested.

6. If you are interested in a mileage shirt you need to keep a running log throughout the summer. The log can start from your first run this summer up to the first day of school.
250 mile shirt for freshmen only
350 mile shirt
500 mile shirt

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
