Tomorrow the team will be wearing purple ribbons in memory of former Capital XC runner Lena Zugnoni. 

She was killed in a car accident earlier this month, she graduated in 2012. Purple was her favorite color, the ribbons will say #livelikelena on them, which is the hashtag her friends are using on Instagram with past photos of her. 

Coach Doherty spoke at her funeral and did a beautiful job!

The Plan - Grandjean is a go!

I have been in touch with the Ranger station in Lowman, the campground in Grandjean and the bus company this morning and this afternoon, from the information they have given us - 
We have decided to go ahead with the camp.  
Highway 21 is open and safe to travel. The bus company has also verified this. They will be making one more check in the morning before we leave. Communication with the campground has minimal smoke conditions over the past 3 days. The ranger station told me that a couple of campers stopped by yesterday and told them that Grandjean was very pleasant, with very little smoke. It was a little smoky today but air quality remained in the yellow zone, the same as down here in the valley. 

We want you to know that we will be constantly monitoring the conditions when we are up there and will only allow athletes to run in proper conditions. There is a possibility that wind conditions may change, which could bring more smoke into the area, so we will be watching for that, but the conditions have been good all week so far.

I know the kids are excited for camp and we are really glad that we didn't have to cancel.
However, we do have one more checkpoint to go through tomorrow morning. We will contact all three places again and will also follow the directions of the bus company.

CAPITAL Cross country camp - Grandjean 
Thursday, Aug 18th (leaving9:30am) to Saturday, Aug 20th (returning 2pm)
Cost $45 per person ($40 if 2 from the same family). 
Cost includes food, shirt, transport and camp site. 
  • Get itinerary and waiver from coaches

***  Starting this Thursday Aug. 4th the WEIGHTROOM time will move from 7AM to 7:45AM.
Football have finished in the weightroom, so we can start a little later. However, we don't want to start too late, as we want you to get your run completed before it gets to hot.

*** Practices will be at 3:30pm, starting Monday Aug. 22nd, Tuesday Aug. 23rd and Wednesday Aug. 24th. Teachers are back on duty, even though school does not start until Wednesday. Wednesday is a half day for students, but not teachers.
Locations will be announced at a later date

*** Freshmen, Sophomores or any athlete new to cross country, please get your physical complete before official practices start Aug. 12th. Bring physicals to practice.
